Learning How to Develop A Relationship With God

The key to beginning a relationship with God is: First of all you must have Faith in God. Hebrews 11:6 tells us, “But without faith it is impossible to please Him: for he that comes to God must believe that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him.” This lets us know that if we want to find favor in God, that we must have faith in Him.

The next thing you need to ask yourself is: What exactly is this faith? Hebrews 11:1 tells us, “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen.” Let’s explore this by putting it into laymen’s term: For those of us who have Direct Deposit, before we first began receiving it, we did not know for sure if our funds would actually be in our bank account waiting for us to withdraw it, but we were hoping that this would be a better alternative than having to receive an actual check that we would have to go to the bank to deposit, so you were willing to take the risk. Having said that, how did we learn about Direct Deposit?

This leads us to the third thing you need to ask yourself: How do you acquire faith? Romans 10:17 says, “So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” We have a tendency to believe things that we hear when it comes from a reliable source. The word of God is the ultimate reliable source.

This leads us to the fourth thing that you should ask yourself: How then can we get acquainted with the Word of God? 2Timothy 2:15 tells us, “Study to show yourself approved unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” You must become a student of the Word. This is the same as a disciple of Christ. As you follow Christ through the study of His Word, His Word is also evaluating you.

This leads us to the fifth thing that you should ask yourself: How can the Word of God rightly divide the word of truth? Hebrews 4:12 tells us: “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” Because you are now a student of the Word of God, you should now have the confidence that you need to surrender your life unto Christ. When you do this, you are now born again, because John 3:16 tells us that, “… whosoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have everlasting life.” Now that you are born again you need the full package. You need the Spirit of Truth, which is the Comforter and the Holy Spirit of God. Jesus said in John 16: 7, 13: “Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you. However when He, the Spirit of truth, is come, He will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of Himself; but whatsoever He shall hear, that shall He speak: and He will show you things to come.”  So you see, you should never attempt to study the Word of God without first inviting the presence of the Holy Spirit to guide you and teach you in your studies.

This leads us to the sixth and final question that you should ask yourself: How can I receive the Holy Ghost? Acts 2: 1-4 explains it beautifully. You must be in the place where God has commanded you to be, and you must be operating in harmony. You can begin by joining a Word Church and attending faithfully. Continue to study your bible as well as being taught the Word in church. Last but not least, pray. Develop a prayer life by praying in God’s will. You can pray His will by praying His Word.

Now you have the formula on how to develop a relationship with God, what are you going to do with it? I pray that you will seize this opportunity to begin a life of utter fulfillment with God.
